“Palapa Lee is a sweet casita steps from the beach. Fridge, 2 burner stove and dishes were perfect for 2. The pool is steps from the casita, warm, very clean and not chlorinated! There are thatched umbrellas, lounge chairs and tables right on the beach. Juan is very friendly and Teresita the cute terrier on the property loves pets. It’s very quiet and I was able to do a presentation over Zoom without any issues as they have Starlink. A very comfortable bed, pillows and A/C made the time indoors a lovely reprieve from the humidity. Our golf cart rental whipped us to grocery store only 10 minutes away and it’s like a Target/grocery store so shopping was easy. Highly recommend Villa Makax!”

“This was the perfect place for us. Away from the hustle and bustle of crowded North Beach, you have your own little piece of the island, right on the beach. The owners were welcoming and the caretaker family were extremely helpful and friendly. We stayed in the Lee Bungalow with our own little porch facing the beach which was just steps away. We could practically fall into the pool from our front door. We rented a golf cart during our stay which we found very handy, though taxis and ubers seem plentiful and cheap if you prefer. We plan to return next year.”

Having the beach & pool was such a plus. We rented golf carts to get around & explore the island. We loved being out of the hustle & bustle, but only about a 10 minute cart ride to everything. “We just returned from spending 11 nights at Villa Makax in Cottage Sam. From the start, Steve & Lindell were very easy to work with and we stayed in communication as necessary. The property is located in Sac Bao. I would recommend a golf cart for the entire stay. The beach was lovely as was the warm saltwater pool. Rosario and her family were very attentive to our needs and were there we needed them. Every morning we could check out the new turtle nests as they would come up on the beach and lay their eggs each night. Early mornings under the palapa were excellent…so peaceful and serene. We usually stay near Playa Norte but wanted something much quieter with less traffic. This was the spot. After floating for hours in the crystal clear water, we were able to finish the afternoon off in the warm water of the saltwater pool before heading north for dinner. There are several spots close by for good food but we always enjoy heading to the Playa Norte area for dinner. I’d highly recommend staying here again as we will again in the future. “Villa Makax is on the quiet side of the island so if you are looking for a romantic get away this is the place!! Be sure to walk down to Zoetry for breakfast on the water. It was so nice we did it twice! Also within walking distance is Izla hotel and it was a perfect spot for dinner. If you want to venture out to the bars, restaurants, shopping and the gorgeous North beach rent a golf cart for a day! Or take a cab. The only thing I would change about this place is a keurig coffee pot with k cups for an easy way to make my morning coffee before we walked to breakfast. They had a regular pot but I didn’t wanna mess with all of that. Haha. All in all nice place where you can see the water and hear the waves from your bed! Definitely recommend!!”

“Private beachfront, spectacular views, inviting saltwater pool, wonderful host and hostess. Villa Makax is truly a gem on this treasured island. We woke each morning to the sounds of rustling palm leaves, tides lapping against the shoreline, and the serenade of melodious song birds. We began each day with long strolls along the beach, followed by sipping coffee while swinging in a hammock chair suspended from our beach-front porch. For breakfast, we dined el fresco in the shade of one of several palapas on simple meals prepared in our kitchenette. Our days were filled lounging, reading, and swimming at the many beautiful beaches on Isla Mujeres and at the salt water pool on the premises, touring the island, exploring shops, sipping cocktails and dining. “Truly a lovely place on the bay looking across to Cancun. Away from the hustle of El Centro but a short taxi ride away it’s a calm spot to really relax and enjoy the pool, sit on a beach chair, go for a swim in the bay or just read a book. The owners are absolutely wonderful people and have been on the island for decades. You’ll love them. The casitas are perfect, everything you need and nothing you don’t. The bed is extremely comfortable and air conditioning is a nice touch although we really never used it, preferring to sleep with the large sliding door open and the screen in place and enjoying a gentle breeze from the ceiling fan. I’m looking forward to coming back to Villa Makax and it will be my first choice as a place to stay on the island. It’s really a gem.”
